First International Trip: 4 Days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 🇲🇾✈️
Our First International Trip: 4 Days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Last August 29, 2024, I finally fulfilled one of my biggest dreams: to travel abroad for the first time. What made it even more special was that I got to share this experience with my mom. We flew with AirAsia, and our flight was smooth and comfortable—such a great start to our journey.
We spent 4 days and 3 nights in Kuala Lumpur and while short, the trip was filled with food, shopping, sightseeing, and so many precious memories. Here’s a look at how our adventure unfolded, plus some tips if you’re planning your own trip to KL.
Day 1: Arrival in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur
We arrived at our hotel around 4 AM. The best part? It was right inside Petaling Street, making it convenient for exploring. Petaling is lively, full of shops and food stalls, and close to many of the city’s landmarks.
After settling in, we had our first Malaysian meal at a nearby café—Nasi Lemak and Biryani. Both were flavorful and filling, a perfect way to kick off our trip.
💡 Tip: If it’s your first time in KL, consider staying in Petaling Street/Chinatown. It’s affordable, central, and has easy access to shopping and public transport.
Day 2: Shopping, Street Food, and Exploring
Our second day was dedicated to exploring nearby shops. Since our hotel was in Petaling, we didn’t have to go far. We found a thrift store where clothes were priced at just 6–13 Ringgit—such a steal! Perfect for pasalubong or even adding new pieces to your wardrobe.
We also experienced the city bus. Before, it was free, but now foreigners pay just 1 Ringgit. It was easy to get around, and one ride already gave us a mini city tour.
That day, we also tried Mon Chinese Roti, which was soft, chewy, and absolutely delicious. Because it was Malaysia’s Independence Day, we got to enjoy Thai tea on sale—a sweet surprise.
At night, we joined a city tour. Unfortunately, the rain spoiled the view a little, but seeing Kuala Lumpur lit up at night was still magical.
💡 Tip:
* Street food is cheap, usually around 5–15 Ringgit, and definitely worth trying.
* Petaling has lots of thrift finds—don’t forget to bargain!
Day 3: Petronas Towers and Café Hopping
Of course, no trip to Kuala Lumpur is complete without visiting the Petronas Twin Towers. Standing beneath those iconic skyscrapers felt surreal—it was one of the highlights of our trip.
Afterward, we went to a nearby mall to relax and enjoy a cozy café meal. We ordered an almond croissant, pesto pasta, and salad—a nice change from all the street food we had been enjoying.
Later, we dropped by a laundry shop near our hotel to freshen up our clothes, which was super convenient since we were traveling light.
💡 Tip:
* Visit Petronas Towers early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds.
* Cafés in KL are everywhere and perfect if you need a break from sightseeing.
* If you’re traveling light, laundry shops in Chinatown are affordable and quick.
Day 4: A Bittersweet Goodbye
Our last day came too soon. We packed up and left early in the morning, carrying with us not just souvenirs but also memories we’ll treasure forever.
Final Thoughts + Travel Tips
